In this “Space for God: Lent,” Rev. Bill Haley guides us into a Holy Week reflection on Jesus’ deeper motivation for moving towards crucifixion. Yes, the forgiveness of our sins was a significant factor, but Bill demonstrates how Jesus’ atoning sacrifice was actually a means to a greater end: the extension of God’s own family life to include us as adopted sons and daughters. He closes by offering us time to sit with the image and implications of Jesus as our big brother.
A helpful complement to this reflection would be Bill’s Holy Week reflection: “Jesus Didn’t Have to Die (and he didn’t want to, either)”
