Remembering God’s Faithfulness: A Decade of Corhaven Celebration

On September 21st, 2019, about 125 old and new friends descended on Quicksburg, VA for the “Decade of Corhaven” celebration honoring ten years of God’s faithfulness to and through this special place and the Haley’s who have sought to steward it. Many came from hours away in Northern Virginia or Baltimore, some from even as far as North Carolina and Oregon, and some simply crossed over Holman’s Creek, but all were offered a beautiful encapsulation of the kind of space this retreat center has sought to make in the world.

We were invited to taste and celebrate the bounty of Creation cultivated and seasoned by Tara, Susan, and their hard-working team; to behold and take home with us beautiful things well-made at the Common Good Things pop-up shop; to share and be inspired by stories of what this place has meant to so many of us; to sing together in response to God’s faithfulness with the help of Ryan Scarberry; and to catch from Bill a vision of what might be on the horizon for this “thin space” in the coming years. Simply put, we were invited to meet with and be met by God, together.

One of the clearest take-aways from the day was that the Lord has affirmed the formation and transformation that occurs at Corhaven. Along with this affirmation comes the question of what it looks like to steward and carry forward this “Yes” from God so that more might come to be formed and transformed in the coming decade. Towards the end of the “program” time (approximately at 35:30 in the longer video to the right), Bill addresses this question of “next steps,” of being responsive to the strong sense that the Lord has more for this space than is possible at its current capacity. He admits that there is not absolute clarity on what these next steps will look like but asserts that the physical expansion of Corhaven is one of Coracle’s major priorities over the next few years.

These steps will be taken in faith, praising God for what He has already enabled through Corhaven by the support of many over the past decade, and trusting that since He is leading this ministry into more, He will also draw more people in to support Coracle’s mission and presence as it moves beyond its current bounds.

If you would like to be one of those who will help Coracle continue to accomplish its mission and broaden its impact, please consider becoming a monthly sustaining donor. Recurring support is the best way (aside from lots of prayer) to help us step into this next season of growth wisely and securely!

We hope you’ll enjoy the videos and photos from the day, the best of which were taken by former Coracle Fellow, Jan Harrison!

Thanks to all of you who came to celebrate with us and to all of you who have made this place possible over the last ten years!
