Spiritual Direction

The Gift of Spiritual Direction

The ministry of Spiritual Direction has grown in popularity and accessibility over the last decade, but for many of us, I expect it remains a bit foggy.  I know it was for me when I joined the Coracle staff.

Not a mentor, therapist, or life coach—a Spiritual Director occupies a unique space in our journey of faith.  Their primary posture is one of listening companionship, of “listening to God on your behalf,” while also offering you different ways to grow more present to God’s presence and voice.  Bill Haley has written helpfully on this unique ministry and how his own experience of receiving direction even saved his life on a couple of occasions!

Spiritual Direction has been a core offering of Coracle since our founding, and over the years we have been able to cultivate a community of over 30 directors serving hundreds of directees across the globe.  We are so grateful for these men and women who offer us spaces to…

  1. Bring our real lives– full of questions, joys, distractions, hopes, longings– before the Lord,
  2. Be reminded of God’s loving presence in the midst of all our wrestlings or meanderings, and
  3. Experience the grace of genuine growth in God over time.

You’ll find a few additional resources on Spiritual Direction below if you’d like to learn more about this powerful ministry.  And, if you decide you’d like to talk with someone about entering into this life-giving rhythm yourself, our Spiritual Direction Coordinator, Margot Eyring, would love to talk with you!

Finally, if you are a trained Spiritual Director looking for a supportive community of other directors, we would love for you to consider offering direction through Coracle!  If you are interested in learning more about what it looks like to be a part of Coracle’s Director community, take a look at this, and then feel free to reach out to Margot.  We are excited to see how the Lord will use this growing community of Directors and directees!
