Contemplative Life

“How did you meet God at Corhaven?”

After most group retreats at Corhaven and often personal retreats, we ask a few questions about people’s experiences and ideas.   And we always ask “How did you meet God?”.  The following replies are just a few taken from recent retreatants.  Praise God that he meets his people deeply and often out here!

From group retreats:

“He gave me peace and quiet to mediate, pray and rest.”

“He carried my sorrows, He carried my burdens, He led me to the cross and His path of righteousness.”

“God always meets me in this place. Today he was specifically speaking to me not to fear. This was what most clearly spoke to me from the morning scripture.”

“The serenity and silent space provide me to really pray deeply and seek him without interruption. Also meeting Him through the other retreat participants was a great way to encounter God through other Christians.”

“He spoke clearly to me through the passage- said “Go!” I feel commanded to head out for the next season of my life or at least to go now- to be obedient and allow him to provide strength where I am weak. I was encouraged to not be afraid! As well, he is beckoning me to come join Him in my soul and feel his presence!”

“He provided exactly what I needed- not what I expected.”

“I gave time and space to hear Him and to give Him my ear and He definitely spoke to me. He specifically gave me encouragement for the present moment.”

“I was reminded that even though I have many question and concerns for Jesus- I deeply love him. That first and foremost I am a woman who loves Jesus.”

“God met me here through walking the nature paths and in hearing others share but primarily in the silent moments of prayer. God has calmed my soul and made me hungry for him through this retreat.”

“He spoke so profoundly to me about a journey I have been experiencing, His presence and love were very clear. Too much to articulate- everything was just what I needed.”

From personal retreats:

“He just let me be with Him. He gave me closure on this season I am coming out of and hope for the future.”

“After an extended period of struggle and sorrow, and a recent transition to renewal, hope and peace. This time here allowed me to process it all with God, to begin to see God’s purposes in all of it, and to recommit myself to Him after a time of withdrawal and purposelessness.”

“Many ways–ways I’ll be continuing to digest for a while. The precious reminder that God is here and is loving me. Reassurance and reminders of my calling and vocation. Knowing that I can trust him with the tender places. Mourning and rejoicing. Resting and Moving.”

“I feel that He was at work in getting me ready to come by setting out an invitation through the information described on the website. From there, the anticipation grew as we tried to find a time that worked. Once here, I feel He met me in ways that He wants to continue to meet me. Through pictures, stories, ideas, visual encounters, conversations, etc. I wanted and asked, expected and opened myself and I was met by God.”

“He reminded me of who He is and what He wants for me: a loving father who wants to give good gifts to his child because he loves me.”

“He taught me more about His love for me and His delight in me as His son. He put my heart to rest and taught me more about what it means to be with Him and listen to His voice. He showed me that he just wants me to be the part of His image that I was created to be- nothing more and nothing less”

“He gave me a safe space to cry and be sad, encouragement to go into place beyond words, and courage to wait on Him for healing.”

“Just being with Him. We talked.”
