Sometimes called “the most influential pastor you’ve never heard of”, Gordon Cosby was one of my mentors. (Oh, what undeserved, mysterious Grace!) In retrospect, Gordon ranks high on the list of human beings who have not just taught me, but formed me. (How could I have been so fortunate?)
He said in 1958, “If a community is to be ablaze with visible power and love, it will be because some of us are personally aflame.”
I really hope you’ll join me and us on Saturday, June 14 at our ministry center in Arlington for 5 hours of “Spiritual Formation FOR Kingdom Action IN Community” from 9.30am-2.45pm.
And/or, I hope you’ll join me and us for Coracle’s annual fundraiser starting that same day at 3pm-5pm. Remember last year’s, called “Light Shines”? This year we’re calling it “Burning Brighter”. Things have gotten darker since our last fundraiser, so as followers of Jesus with his Spirit living in us, right now the invitation and our vocation is to burn brighter. What a glad summons!! (How could we be so fortunate?) At this event we’ll explain where Coracle is going in our next season.
Sign up for one or both of these offerings here. For more information and for the deeper why of our day, read more here, and Tara and I would love to see you at our home in Falls Church the night before, Friday June 13, for an open house from 5pm-8pm. There’s more about that here, too.
“If a community is to be ablaze with visible power and love, it will be because some of us are personally aflame.” I want to burn hotter**. I would like to burn hotter with you, together, each of us helping the other shine for Love’s sake, giving off more Light. Join us?
**Here in a song is the musical version of this sentiment/my heart. The song shows up in this Space for God, “Catching the Fire”, a clear distillation of what Coracle is most deeply about. If you find your heart stirred, pray this song with me and for us.
