Contemplative Life

This Will Be Really Good For You, and Won’t Hurt (Too Much)

I’m really excited by the retreats we’re offering this fall.  Something feels different about them.  Deeper.  More out there.  Sober.  Good.  Deeply good.  Even important.  A bit more risky.  And not for all, but still for many.

First, If you’re anything like I am, September marks the start of a new year of sorts, and for me each year I look at the coming year starting in September and it feels like a tsunami coming.  To pray about all that’s coming and the stuff we don’t is a good way to start the new year, and we’re providing an opportunity to do that September 10 in Arlington, VA.

And then at Corhaven, all our retreats this fall are NEW.  They are for people who really want to go deeper in God and further in Christ, and really want to make a difference for good in the world.  They’re for people who have walked the road with Jesus for a while and are longing for More.  Any one of them will meet you powerfully and help, and I’m pretty sure that if you can do all three of them, it’ll change you.  Each of them are ‘passion’ retreats for me…things offered from my own depths and journey, my desires, failures, hard-won wisdom, and joys, offered from my own deep desire to help you grow for your good and for the good of the world and her people, all for God’s great glory.

Saturday, September 24:   “God’s Call to You – Spiritual Formation for Kingdom Action”

This is the heart of Coracle’s mission, to help you be (in CS Lewis’ term) a “Little Christ” in this world as only you can be.  We’ll explore this soaring vision in this retreat, and reflect on God’s plan for the world that he loves but is broken, and your part in its healing.  A free book comes with this one.

Saturday October 15:  “Light in the Darkness: On Redemptive Suffering”

The first title for this retreat was ‘Consecrating Your Pain’.  Yes, we’re talking about taking the hardest things in our lives and offering them up to God for his use, and by virtue of that then seeing that pain redeemed.   Our sufferings do not have to have last word, and this retreat explores how that can be.   So, got any hard things in your life?  Of course you do.  This retreat will help you navigate them.

Saturday November 5:  “Where Our Faith Leads:  Abandonment to God”

‘I just want to be a pencil in the hand of God’ said Mother Teresa.  I’ve taught on this only briefly, and I’m terribly excited to use this opportunity to explore on the topic of ‘Abandonment to God’ deeply, because it is the apex of the Christian life, and where we be come free and powerful and joyful people, and where God is free to use us…after we’ve died to self.

Each of these retreats will be a sensual feast in the beauty of Corhaven, and will include ‘Lunch by Tara’, prayers, solitude, and close with the Eucharist.   Click on the title to learn more about each retreat and sign up.   Come to one, come to all three.  I guarantee you’ll be challenged, encouraged, refreshed, and met.

Excited, and on the journey….
