For the World

There is a Balm in Gilead

In anticipation of the Corhaven Graveyard’s Dedication on April 30th, and in commemoration of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4, 1968, I wanted to share this beautiful traditional African American spiritual with our audiences.  Listen, for the harmonies of the voices of many, blending seamlessly to support the voice of one plaintive cry of hope and pain together.  It’s a beautiful reminder of why the Dedication and the Corhaven Graveyard as a whole are so important to us and why we hope you’ll come join us on April 30th.  (h/t Biola University’s fantastic Lenten Devotional – Feb 16th).

Lyrics
There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin sick soul.

Sometimes I feel discouraged,
And think my work in vain,
But then the Holy Spirit
Revives my soul again.

If you cannot preach like Peter,
If you cannot pray like Paul,
Just tell the love of Jesus,
And say He died for all.

Here’s another blog post on the topic with a bit more backstory, in case you missed it.
