Contemplative Life

Lament, Dream, and Invision

Remembering 9/11, a part of God’s story comes to mind when God’s people were under harsh times, and were trying to recover from an attack.  Years had gone by, and food was scarce, and people hungered for help from the Lord.  When Joel lifts these things up in prayer, God asks us to lament, repent, and then says this:

Joel 2

28 “And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
30 I will show wonders in the heavens
and on the earth,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.

Did you hear that?!?  God said there will be ‘optimistic seniors,’ and ‘methodical youth’…wow!  God sure can do anything!  God helps anyone in these tough times: children, adults, men, women, the rich, and the poor.  God may seem intimidating at times, but we are called to bring our hardships to God, repent, and the Lord will do wonderful things!

Pray with me,

Almighty God who knows everything we can come to you about, we thank you for your steadfastness, and your love.  We thank you for our many blessings even when it is hard to see them at times.  Please be with those whose hearts are hardened by the events in our country 13 years ago today, the wars going on around the world, and those suffering.  We also lift up our enemies, so we can all be transformed in your understanding and reconciliation.  Help us to dream dreams and invasion visions for peace in our world.  Amen.
